New Outdoor Furniture: Another Step Toward a Greener, Friendlier Confluence

Updated: Dec 4, 2025

Today a group of board members and staff installing the final pieces that turn The Confluence from “beautiful building” into “beautiful place to be.”

New bike racks (encouraging more pedal-powered commutes) Sturdy picnic tables and benches (for lunch breaks with a view) Proper garbage + recycling stations (because even outdoors we keep it green).

Every choice was intentional:

  • The bike racks reduce car trips and keep parking free for visitors.

  • The picnic tables are made from recycled-content steel and will outlast all of us.

  • Separate bins for waste and recycling.

Combined with the building’s Passive House certification and 85 % lower energy use, these small outdoor upgrades are another quiet way we’re living our promise: the most sustainable commercial building in the Kootenays shouldn’t stop being sustainable the moment you step outside.

Next summer we want to invite you to eat your sandwich while watching the river this summer. Bring a friend, grab a seat, and enjoy the space the community built.

Love what we’re doing?

Naming opportunities are still available for outdoor features (yes, you can literally have your name on a picnic table that will host hundreds of lunches and coffee chats for decades). Drop us a line → cdcoced@castlegar.com
